In November 2017, 26 people were killed in a massacre at a rural Texas church in Sutherland Springs. Ryland Ward is a 5-year-old. He was shot five times.

He was immediately taken to the hospital, but has suffered complications from the bullets, so he is still in the hospital. He has been struggling with kidney issues and a shattered femur. He has not yet been told that his stepmother and two sisters died in the attack.

Because Ryland is still in the hospital, his family wants to do everything they can to help him have a merry Christmas.

To help Ryland celebrate Christmas, they are asking people to send him cards. They want special greetings that can be read to Ryland and a $1 bill so he can buy a go-cart when he heals—or at least save up some money for one.

According to a local news station, “He also likes getting pictures from other children and their pets.”

Ryland’s grandmother lost a lot on the day of the shooting. She shared, “It seems like all I do is cry lots of days because I still miss JoAnn and the girls and I’m sure it will be a long time before I get over that.”

Despite her own grieving, though, she’s doing everything she can to support Ryland as he recovers from his injuries. She shared, “You got so many nice people that are sending a card and a dollar to Ryland. He does really enjoy that a lot.”

Doctors hoped that Ryland would be home before Christmas. However, with the complications he is having, it will likely be another 6 weeks.

If you’re interested in making Ryland’s Christmas a little brighter, you can send a Christmas card to the following address:

Ryland Ward
P.O. Box 174
Sutherland Springs, Texas 78161

Let’s help to make Ryland’s Christmas as happy as we possibly can! Hopefully, his hospital room will be flooded with cards from well-wishers across the nation!
