David Mosher, 35, and Heather Lindsay, 31, stayed true to their vows of marriage – in sickness and in health – even before they tied the knot.
The Connecticut couple managed to say “I do” just hours before Lindsay passed away from a year-long battle with breast cancer.
“It was more like a funeral than a wedding, to be honest,” said Mosher. “It was the hardest hour of my life.”
Mosher had planned to propose to Lindsay on December 23, 2016, but that morning Lindsay was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer that had already spread to her lymph nodes.
Despite the terrible news, Mosher still went ahead with the proposal as planned.
“I left the plans as they were. I proposed to her,” he said. “We had the toughest year of our life. She struggled with her cancer through the traditional chemotherapy.”
At first, it looked like Lindsay had the cancer under control, but in September they received more bad news. The cancer had spread to her brain and lungs, and she didn’t have too much longer to live.
“We realized it was something that needed to happen because she probably wasn’t going to make it,” said Mosher.
They set the date for their wedding for December 30, but as the date neared, it became clear that she wouldn’t make that date.
So on December 22, dressed in her wedding dress and lying in her hospital bed, Lindsay was wheeled down the aisle of the hospital chapel and she and Mosher were married.
Just 18 hours later, Lindsay passed away. Her funeral took place on December 30, the original date of their wedding.
“We had a great love,” Mosher said. “Don’t take your love for granted because it could be taken away.”
