For the past 15 years, Theresa Rowley has been a resident at Michigan retirement community. She first moved in when she was 89 years old. Now, she’s 104.
According to Theresa, “I’m surprised that I’m 104. It just doesn’t seem like I should be that old.”
So how did Theresa get to be her age? Well, she drank a lot of soda.
Theresa drinks a Diet Coke every single day. And she has done so for decades.
“When I was 100, I thought I’d never be 104,” she shared about her age. “I thought I’d pass away by that time but it just didn’t happen. Then I turn 101, and nothing happens.”
Theresa was born in 1914. Diet Coke wasn’t around until 68 years later, so she hasn’t had it every day of her life, but it’s been a staple for years.
Through all of this, she’s kept up her steady intake of Diet Coke. “I drink it because I like it. I have a bag full of empty Diet Coke cans that I need to return to buy more Diet Coke.”
While Theresa might credit the soda to her impressive age, that’s not necessarily supported by doctors or researchers. Many researchers suggest that you try to limit your intake of soda—whether it’s diet or not.
Regardless of whether or not Diet Coke is a part of the reason that Theresa is so healthy—happy birthday to her! We’ll pop a few cans open today to celebrate her 104 years of life so far!
