The film tells the story about a boy who reluctantly receives a puppy as a present from his mom.
Before he gets the dog, the boy is shown playing video games in a room with the blinds closed. His mother comes home, opens the blinds and gives him a box.
The box opens, and an energetic puppy emerges. The boy then discovers that the dog is missing a front leg and disappointedly drops the puppy to the floor.
The puppy pays no heed to his disdain and invites the boy to play with a red ball he found. After a number of clumsy attempts to play fetch, the boy finally warms up to the dog and takes him outside to play.
We then discover that like the dog, the boy is also missing a leg. The film ends with the boy walking out on crutches to go and throw the ball to his new furry friend outside.
