54-Year-Old Man Gets Excused From Jury Duty After Revealing He Is in Love for the First Time

December 14, 2017

In what seems like a scene from a heartwarming movie, a judge granted a man relief from jury duty after the man said he was in love.

Sarah-Jane Murphy, a journalist who covers court proceedings in Dublin, Ireland, witnessed the exchange and shared the moment on Twitter.

It reads:

“Man: I can’t serve; I’m away for weekend.

Judge: We don’t sit at weekends.

Man: I’m away til Monday. I’m 54, a bachelor and it’s my first time in love.

Judge: Then you go and you go with my blessing.”

Murphy said that the man spoke hesitantly to begin with, but then spoke with more confidence after he gave his reason for not being able to serve.

“The judge broke into a broad smile and the man walked away grinning,” said Murphy. “The woman beside me turned to me and said, ‘Did I imagine that?”

What do you think of his excuse? Have you ever had an excuse like this to get out of jury duty? Let us know in the comments!
