They always say "pride comes before a fall," and I believe that couldn't be truer. I mean, think about it: when was the last time you boasted, only to have the boastful thing blow up in your face? I bet you can think of at least one instance.
If you feel pride is becoming a barrier for you or someone you know, let these seven Bible verses encourage you. Remember, nobody's perfect—that's why we have a Savior!
1. James 4:6
"But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'”
2. Proverbs 16:18
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."
3. Proverbs 21:4
"Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin."
4. James 4:10
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."
5. Romans 12:16
"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited."
6. Jeremiah 9: 23-24
"This is what the LORD says: 'Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, 24 but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the LORD."
7. 1 Corinthians 13:4
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."
