88-year-old Walmart greeter, Bob Tallinger, made headlines when he was fired for "letting a wild turkey" enter the building. It was the Walmart located in Waukesha, Wisconsin where he worked there as a greeter for almost eight years until he was fired.
On March 27, the reason the manager fired Bob was because he failed to react fast enough when the stray bird entered the store. In the end, the Humane Animal Welfare Society was called to catch the turkey.
Management claimed that Bob should have "helped" the bird get out of Walmart before it upset any customers' shopping experience. However, no one even reported having a negative experience that day.
Bob's wife, Janet, believes that the Walmart management's decision to fire Bob was "unfair," and believes it wasn't her husband's job to handle wild animals. Janet goes on to say that Bob was one of the most popular greeters at that store. When asked what Bob will miss most, he says, "People."
The local news channel, WISN, reached out to corporate headquarters and Walmart responded with a statement saying:
"We appreciate the public's concern and take this situation seriously. While we will not comment on HR matters, we can confirm Mr. Tallinger is no longer with the company."
Even Bob's coworkers called the local news station very upset about this situation and the outcome. They also believe management was wrong in this case and that Bob should be back working as a greeter.
