This summer, Hurricane Irma struck much of Florida, forcing many people living in the state to evacuate. Tara Parket Routzong and her 9-year-old son, Landon, lived in Alabama, right along one of the evacuation routes.
One day just before Hurricane Irma hit, Tara and Landon were waiting in the Drive-Thru at their local Chick-Fil-A. Just in front of them, they saw a car with a Florida license plate. Landon really wanted to do something to help out.
Landon shared with ABC News, “I didn’t want them to waste their money on food because they’re trying to escape the hurricane. I felt like I should help out.”
When Tara placed her order, she told the employee that she wanted to pay for the car in front of her. The employee responded that she would have to get to the window before the car did in order to do that.
As soon as Tara heard that, she knew exactly what to do. She handed her card to Landon and said, “Here’s my debit card. Run!”
Landon ran up to the window of the car in front of them. He asked the driver if he could pay for his lunch. The man, of course, accepted Landon’s kind offer. When Landon returned to the car, both he and his mother had tears in their eyes.
After picking up his food, the man from Florida pulled over to than Tara and Landon for their kindness. He had driven to Alabama from his home in Miami—right in the path of the hurricane. The man once again thanked them. Tara shared, “I told him we hoped he returned to his house untouched and that we’d keep him in our thoughts.”
It’s incredible to see the kindness of this sweet boy. A small blessing like that can make someone else’s day so much better.
In other news, you have to see this man’s incredible job—he gets to cuddle babies all day! Read the story here.
