We watched with horror and sadness over the past few years as the beloved former child star struggled against her emotional demons. Now, we are rejoicing that she seems to have taken a positive step toward finally escaping them.
Amanda Bynes, who has had more than her share of challenges since her blockbuster television career ended years ago, seems to be putting the tattered pieces of her life back together. First step? Graduating from a prestigious fashion school in Los Angeles!
“The former Nickelodeon star shared a photo of herself Monday in a cap and gown next to a fellow graduating pal, captioning the post ... ‘FIDM graduate 2019 #fidmgraduation.’”
For those wondering how she looked as she walked across the stage to collect her diploma, there were reports from other graduates at the ceremony.
According to TMZ, “The 12,000-student ceremony went down Monday night at Staples Center in L.A., where Amanda walked across the stage with an Associate's degree in fashion design.
“Eyewitnesses tell us Amanda seemed ecstatic -- she was getting tons of love from her teachers and peers.
“We're also told Amanda came off a bit awkward at times during the graduation, but clearly had it together enough to pose for some selfies with her classmates.”
This step-in-the-right-direction comes after months man years of erratic behavior, fueled by her admitted bi-polar disorder.
In January of this year, Amanda checked herself into a mental health facility after having an unexpectedly negative reaction to her attempt to step back into the showbiz spotlight.
Paper magazine featured the former child star in a cover story, in which Amanda opened up about her mental health struggles.
In the revealing interview, Amanda shared that “the starring role in 2006's ‘She's the Man’ sent her into a spiral of depression.
“She also blamed a lot of her issues on drug use. At the time of the article -- November 2018 -- Amanda said she was 4 years sober.”
The past few years have been especially difficult for the 33-year-old singer/actress, having been placed under conservatorship five years ago.
That’s why we are so thrilled to see her taking steps to set her life back in order.
Amanda enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2014, working sporadically toward the degree that was conferred upon her this week.
The only major break she took in her educational pursuits was to attempt to get back into acting last year. But, it appears that, since then, she has been completely focused on her future fashion career.
Hollywood friends Perez Hilton and Wendy Williams reached out to offer their congratulations to the struggling star.
"Congratulations to Amanda Bynes on graduating from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Amanda tweeted a photo from the ceremony making it her first tweet since November 2018."
"Huge congratulations to @amandabynes!!!"
We hope that Amanda is back on the road to a productive, fulfilling, and rewarding life.
