The darling of the Democrat Party has taken to Social media - AGAIN - with a comment that appears to have not been carefully thought out - AGAIN.
This time her complaint has to do with what she interprets as a ‘racist’ decision. But her tirade is backfiring as social media users are pointing out that she is the one focusing on race and skin color!
CBS, one of the ‘Big Three’ in broadcast media just announced their brand new elite team of journalists for the 2020 election.
Ben F. Mitchell, a CBS News associate producer, proudly tweeted on Friday: “It's Official: The @CBSNews 2020 Election Team has assembled!”
The team is comprised of eight Campaign Reporters and four Associate Producers.
Yet AOC is having a hissy fit because there aren’t any black reporters on the panel. Ignoring the fact that women are well-represented and that there are, indeed, 'people of color' in the mix.
“This WH admin has made having a functional understanding of race in America one of the most important core competencies for a political journalist to have, yet @CBSNews hasn’t assigned a *single* black journalist to cover the 2020 election.
“Unacceptable in 2019. Try again.”
Intelligent Americans were quick to point out that journalists should not have 'slant' or 'point of view' to their reporting, regardless of race or nation of origin. Twitter users were NOT about to let her get away with blurring the lines of objective journalism and editorial opinion - and they came out with both barrels blasting:
“So? I think it’s ridiculous tha[t] in 2019, one’s skin tone is the only qualification needed for a job.”
"What ever happened to the time when journalists were held to the standard of not sharing their voices and perspectives? Back when it was important to report objectively without including opinion and bias?"
“Noooooo, they are journalists, not opinion providers!!! If they were going to provide their opinion in s they would be part of the editorial board. This is the entire strawman here. Journalists report the facts of who, what, why, when, commentators provide their view on such.”
“How many black journalists applied for the job? Was this discrimination or something else? Also please name a topic that a black journalist can cover that a white journalist can’t? Not everything is about race”
"But are we suggesting they should have assigned a black journalist just to be the face of that perspective? If I was that person I would be offended that I was chosen based primarily on race, no matter how competent I knew I was."
Perhaps the BEST comment of all turned the tables on the self-proclaimed Democrat-Socialist, pointing out that her own party isn't following their own rhetoric:
It seems that people who are determined to make race the underlying issue for all things are the same ones who are color-and-otherwise-blind about the true intent of journalism. Reporters are taught to be completely objective about what and how they report, taking special care to not let any prejudices into their pieces.
Maybe Ocasio-Cortez is just pointing out how so far afield the media has gone in the pursuit of their profession today. No longer do we see/read stories that take pains to present both sides of an issue fairly and equally. It has become a race to get the best 'spin' on a story out there before readers have the chance to think for themselves and form an intelligent opinion based on the FACTS.
Pretty sad, as far as I'm concerned. You?
