It must have been a slow press week for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The new darling of the Left has managed to keep her name in headlines since even before she won her New York district’s Congressional seat in the November 2018 election. And every time she makes news, she makes a new set of enemies.
This time, she crossed a line that was keeping mainstream Republicans from scorching her the way the far-right has. She decided it would be a good idea to trash the memory and legacy of one of America’s most revered and beloved leaders, Ronald Reagan.
Cortez was a guest speaker at the South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas last weekend and managed to put her foot in her mouth when she, out of the blue, accused former President Reagan of being racist. Here are her own words:
“A perfect example of how special interests and the powerful have pitted white working class Americans against brown and black working-class Americans - in order to screw over all working-class Americans - is Reaganism in the ’80s when he started talking about welfare queens.“
Twitter was ablaze the moment the words left her mouth, and AOC did NOT come away unscathed.
Then she went on to expand on what she says Reagan meant, and THAT is what has Americans outraged.
“So you think about this image of welfare queens and what he was really trying to talk about was … this like really resentful vision of essentially black women who were doing nothing, that were ‘sucks’ on our country. That’s not explicit racism but still rooted in a racist caricature.”
No evidence, no facts, no historical context was given, as usual. Maybe her socialist followers are okay with rhetoric and no substance, but conservatives were NOT having it.
The charge to protect Mr. Reagan’s memory was led by conservative actor James Woods who is famous for speaking out bluntly whenever a liberal shoots his mouth off without any foundation.
And Woods used one of President Reagan’s own lines to put the young democratic-socialist politician in her place:
“Reagan: “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant, it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so…”
How ironic that the 40th president of the United States still has the power to make a point - even from beyond the grave. That’s why he was called, ‘The Great Communicator.'
Then, the rest of the sane world chimed in with their own words of wisdom and outright admonition for the 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez.
“Hey @AOC @RepAOC give this a gander before you call Ronald Reagan a racist.”
“AOC is proving herself to be just not a barely functioning moron but an extremely hateful person as well. She calls Reagan a racist. Her country garbage. Reagan was the key player in defeating the Soviet Union and the US has done more good than any other country on earth.”
“AOC calls Ronald Reagan a "racist", gives zero evidence to back up claim. she's really just a disgusting person”
“Your hatred of white Republicans far outweighs any negative feelings President Ronald Reagan had for anyone.
When you call him a racist, you display your shallowness & insolence.
You flippantly defame a great man you've never met to people who knew & loved him.
“There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. @AOC calls Ronald Reagan a racist.“
“Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggests former President Ronald Reagan was a racist and claims he "pitted white working-class Americans against brown and black working-class Americans to screw over all working-class Americans"“
“Reagan: “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant, it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so...
“She wasn’t alive when Reagan was elected in a landslide and re-elected in a bigger landslide. Bu my Lord, @aoc is BRILLIANT!!!”
“Watch @AOC accuse President Ronald Reagan of utilizing racism to "screw over all working-class Americans." (Oh, so THAT explains how Reagan carried 49 states in '84. Black unemployment fell faster than did white unemployment. Black businesses grew faster than white-owned ones.)”
If this is an example of what the education system is teaching these days, we'd better all fear for the future of our country...
