Baby Stabbed, Put In Oven, And Baked, Police Say Grandmother In Custody

October 17, 2018

It is with great sadness to report such horrific news about a baby being stabbed and tossed into a hot oven. The tragic news may be hard for some readers, but we ask that you keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers.

Deputies in Mississippi were called to a home late Monday night in the small town of Shaw, which is about 100 miles northwest of Jackson, Mississippi. When they arrived, they were shocked at what they saw. The police discovered the body of a 20-month-old girl inside a heated oven.

Investigators said that the girl was stabbed, then placed in an oven, and the oven was turned on, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain.

According to local news channel "NBC4i," Strain said that the cause of death is still being investigating, as well as when the young child may have died. The body has since been sent over for an autopsy. It is not clear at this time if the baby was alive when she was put inside the oven.

Strain said that they have a person of interest and they have taken her in for questioning. As of Wednesday morning, the girl's grandmother, 48-year-old Carolyn Jones, was taken into custody and has now been charged with first-degree murder. Her bond has been set at $500,000.

Please pray for this world we live in.
