Former First Daughter Barbara Bush Gets Secretly Married After 5-Week Engagement

October 09, 2018

Former first daughter Barbara Bush is now a married woman.

The 36-year-old daughter of George W. Bush and Laura Bush, who was named after her late grandmother, former first lady Barbara Bush, got married to screenwriter Craig Coyne last Sunday, according to "PEOPLE."

The small, intimate wedding only included 20 family members, and it was held at the Bush family compounds in Kennebunkport, Maine.

"A very short, sweet ceremony" Barbara described it to "PEOPLE."

After her father walked her down the aisle, Barbara and Craig exchanged vows in front of their immediate family members. Among them included former President George H.W. Bush, her mother, Laura Bush, her sister, Jenna Bush Hager, and Jenna's daughters, 5-year-old Margaret, and 3-year-old Poppy, who were flower girls, along with Craig's niece, 5-year-old Emma. Poppy was on double duty that afternoon, serving as the ring bearer. Barbara's aunt, Dorothy Bush Koch was the one who officiated the ceremony.

Though Mrs. Bush's passed away last April, Barbara found a way to keep her grandmother included on her special day. She wore a custom ivory silk crepe gown from Vera Wang, and included a very special bracelet.

“It’s really sweet. The ‘something borrowed’ that I’m wearing is this bracelet that my grandfather gave to my grandmother on their 70th anniversary,” Barbara told PEOPLE. As for her 'something blue," it was a pair of gorgeous earrings from her sister Jenna.

The newlyweds, who kept their romance under wraps until last weekend, have had a busy five-week engagement. Craig, who acted in the 2005 hit movie "Jarhead," as well as "Look At Me," and "The Snowtown Murders," relocated from his Los Angeles home to Barbara's home in Manhattan.

The couple were set up by friends on a blind date last November, and it was said that they became a couple by New Year's Eve, even while living on opposite sides of the country.

Last summer, Craig proposed in a very romantic way. While walking along the ocean at Kennebunkport, Craig dropped down on one knee the same spot where Barbara's grandparents got engaged in August 1943.
