On Saturday, November 3, the Cincinnati Reds made a heartbreaking announcement. One of their minor league pitchers was killed and two of his teammates were injured in a terrible crash while they were in the Dominican Republic.
Pitcher Jairo Capellán, 19, was killed in a car crash that morning. His teammate, pitcher Raul Hernandez, 19, was listed in critical condition at the hospital, while outfielder Emilio Garcia, 19, was in stable condition. The Reds did not release any details about their injuries.
"Jairo was a talented young pitcher with a bright future who was taken from us much too soon," Reds Latin America field coordinator Joel Noboa said, according to "ESPN." "He will be missed by everyone who knew him -- his teammates, coaches, and our Dominican Academy staff."
Capellán made his professional debut with the Reds' rookie-level team, according to "MSN." Garcia and Hernandez also played on the same team in the Dominican Summer League.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
