In a shocking development in the stunning announcement coming out of Amazon's headquarters, the true reason for their CEO Jeff Bezo's divorce from his wife of 25 years has been uncovered. While many will roll their eyes at the almost cliché reason, it is still shocking given what the 53-year-old billionaire stands to lose in the move.
Bezos, the world's richest man, has been married to the former MacKenzie Tuttle, 48, since 1993, and the couple shares four children.
To break the news to the public, the couple made a 'joint announcement' on Twitter on Wednesday, in which Bezos got his version of the story out there first.
"We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos wrote in a joint statement.
With no prenuptial agreement between the two, MacKenzie is theoretically entitled to half of the Amazon founder's estimated $137 billion net worth!
Before the January ninth announcement, not a word had been heard about trouble in paradise for the e-commerce genius, yet one notorious publication claims that they had been investigating disturbing reports about Bezos' love life and were all set to break the news publicly.
“The New York Post and the National Enquirer both reported that Jeff Bezos, 54, is romantically involved with 49-year-old Sanchez, a former 'Good Day LA' news anchor with Fox who also works as a helicopter pilot and entrepreneur.
“The TV host is still married to Patrick Whitesell, the co-CEO of prominent Hollywood talent agency WME.
“Sanchez has three children — two from her marriage to Whitesell and one from a previous relationship.”
“The National Enquirer said it conducted a four-month investigation into Bezos and Sanchez’s alleged affair and suggested that it was its impending report — due to be published in full later this week — that sparked the announcement from Bezos.”
The Enquirer alleges that they obtained copies of text messages sent to Sanchez last Spring, and the time stamp on them proves they were long before Bezos and his wife announced their impending divorce.
The publication claims Bezos only made the announcement on Wednesday because they Enquirer was going to reveal their secret within 48 hours - and Bezos knew it.
“Yet they only first announced their separation this Wednesday morning, Jan. 9 — close to 48 hours after The ENQUIRER informed Bezos of its intention to print the conclusion of a four-month undercover investigation.
“A source close to Sanchez told The ENQUIRER they had separated from their spouses ‘in the Fall.’
“The text messages, however, were seemingly sent before the summer.”
As you might imagine, social media users were quick to jump on that tired old story of the rich man who leaves the wife who saw him through his climb to success. And they were NOT kind...to say the least.
"People Are Already Taking Bets On How Old Jeff Bezos’ Next Girlfriend Will Be"
"Oh goody. Take him for at least half since he has flaunted his new girlfriend. 😏"
“You just paid 79 Billion for your new Girlfriend? That is some expensive stuff, it's now the most expensive (insert expletive describing a female reproductive organ) know to man. This time you should consider renting, it's cheaper for billionaires. BTW I cancelled my Prime Act”
“Jeff Bezos was on the market for less than a day and already got a new girlfriend? He must've chosen same day shipping with Amazon Prime."
