According to stunned witnesses, a five-year-old child was “pushed or thrown” over a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in Minnesota.
The suspect attempted to escape but the 24-year-old man was taken into custody before he could do so.
Bloomington, Minnesota Chief of Police Jeffrey Potts said that they have no evidence that the man who committed the heinous act had any prior relationship with the child’s family.
According to Fox News, Potts said “the suspect immediately took off running but was quickly found and arrested at the mall.”
He also said authorities do not have any idea of a possible motive at this time.
"At this point, we believe this is an isolated incident," the chief said. "We're actively trying to figure out why this occurred.”
The child is said to have suffered “significant injuries,” but was alive when transported to the hospital. No further details about the child’s condition is known.
