Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are among the few celebrities that have made it three decades marriage. While most marriages end after eight years, Hanks and Wilson have easily surpassed the average.
April 30th marked the big year for the famous couple. "Thirty on Thirty," Wilson wrote on Twitter.
Both Wilson and Hanks posted a throwback picture of them as newlyweds 30 years ago. They stood by a cardboard picture of themselves and contrasted the difference.
Wilson posted her image first saying, "April 30, 1988-April 30, 2018 Thirty on Thirty. Keeping love alive. Grateful."
Just a couple hours later, Hanks posted the same image with a different caption. He said, "30 years on April 30. ‘88 To ‘18. Magic numbers. Hanx and @RitaWilson."
During a 2012 interview, Wilson spoke about their romantic marriage and how their marriage has blossomed in the early 1980s.
"I'll never forget, we were standing on the corner of 57th and 5th in New York, or 58th and 5th," said Wilson. "We were holding hands, and we were waiting for the traffic light to change. And he looked at me, and he said, 'You know, I just want you to know, that you never have to change anything about who you are in order to be with me.'"
Hanks and Wilson met on the set of the 1980s film, "Bosom Buddies," and married eight years later. The couple have two sons together, while Hanks has another son and daughter from a previous marriage.
A few years ago, Wilson was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma which is a form of breast cancer. In April 2015, she underwent a double mastectomy. With the grace of God and the support from her husband, she is so grateful.
“Tom was there for her every step of her cancer battle. They are a tremendous support system for each other," a close friend of theirs told "Closer Weekly." “She gives total credit for her survival to her ever-increasing belief in God, and then second comes her doctors and then Tom!”
In 2017, Hanks was interviewed during a podcast with "Sooo Many White Guys," discussing his marriage.
"I will say that right from the get-go, I thought there was something crazy great about her," Hanks said. "I met her, and I thought 'Oh Lord' there's something cookin' here.'"
Please join us in congratulating the couple and wishing them another 30 years!
