There has been some heartbreaking news that has come in. The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of a beloved actress.

Millions of fans have taken to social media sites to express their condolences and have offered their generous support to the family as they go through this difficult time.

The Emmy-nominated and Tony-nominated actress's death was confirmed initially by Fox News who spoke with her publicist.

Actress Charlotte Rae, who is known for her role as Mrs. Garrett on "The Facts of Life," and "Diff'rent Strokes," has passed away in her Los Angeles home on Sunday, August 5. She was 92 years old.

Charlotte Rae was surrounded by loved ones when she passed away. The publicist did not provide information on the cause of death.

In April 2017, the actress was diagnosed with bone cancer, and pancreatic cancer about seven years before.

“At 91, every day is a birthday,” Rae said in a statement after revealing her diagnosis, according to PageSix.

“I’m feeling so terrific and so glad to be above ground,” Rae explained. “Now I have to figure out whether I want to go have treatment again or opt for life…I’ve had a wonderful one already…I’ve had a great life, but I have so many wonderful things happening. I’d like to choose life. I’m grateful for the life I’ve already had.”

In 1978, Charlotte Rae was best known for her character as the adored housemother Edna Garrett in "Diff'rent Strokes." The following year, she received her own spinoff show, "The Facts of Life," according to Fox News.

Mrs. Garrett was a quick-witted, sharp-tongued mentor to the young children on "The Facts of Life." Sadly, in 1986, she left the show stating that there was nothing left for her character to pursue.

Born Charlotte Rae Lubotsky, she was raised in Milwaukee. She attended Northwestern University. Her career began in radio and theater before she stepped out to do television in the 1950s.

Rae appeared on several number one hit shows, such as, “The Partridge Family” and “The Defenders," before she became a star on her own shows.
