'It’s The End Of An Era.' Longtime Favorite Retailer Folds Permanently. Closes ALL Remaining Stores - Effective IMMEDIATELY

I remember when my daughters were in high school during the ’90s and early 2000s and prom time came around. Without fail, one of the four girls and her battle-weary mom would invariably end up at Charlotte Russe.

There, without fail, we would find just the right dress at just the right price. I don’t know why we never started our quest there, but we certainly always ended it there.

Now, some decades later (and three of my four daughters are married with kids of their own) I learn that a huge part of their adolescent years is to be no more.

The sad news coming out of Charlotte Russe corporate offices means the final nail in the coffin for the struggling clothing store - and an end to an era for teenage girls searching for the perfect formal dance attire.

The news comes just weeks after the chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, KVIA reports. In February, the company had intended to close only 94 of its 500 hundred outlets.

But now, according to the Charlotte Russe website, the company is "closing all stores, and the going-out-of-business sales starting Thursday, March 7.”

In another bit of disappointing news, the Charlotte Russe website is no longer open for online sales. So, to take advantage of the going-out-of-business bargains, you’re going to have to make your way to an actual physical store.

In an official statement just released, the company remains hopeful that a similar store could take Charlotte Russe’s place in the retail world of brick and mortar businesses.

According to KVIA, “We are partnering with the buyer and remain in talks to sell the IP, are optimistic about the future of the brand, and remain in ongoing negotiations with a buyer who has expressed interest in a continued brick and mortar presence to continue to serve our loyal customers in the future,” the statement said.

The news means an uncertain future for the 8,700 employees that will be without jobs once the final door is closed.

Some of them took to Twitter expressed their dismay - and even scold shoppers for their recent disloyalty:

“All Charlotte Russe’s are now officially closing so bye bye to the best job I’ve ever had :("

“ppl really come into charlotte russe and say "omg i cant believe youre closing you guys are my favorite store" like HUUHHH WHERE HAVE YALL BEEN??? THE STORES BEEN EMPTY FOR MONTHS

“Well the outcome was not what we hoped for unfortunately but when one door closes, several others open up to you. Charlotte Russe has been my life for the last 7yrs. “

One Twitter user says it best, looking to the future possibilities once her place of employment is no more:

“With a heavy heart Charlotte Russe will be closing all of its doors .. I can’t express how grateful I am for the person and manager it made me. I hope I can take everything I’ve learned and share it with wherever life takes me next. Team 144 a&f ❤️”

In case you were wondering about the gift cards you’ve collected over the years, the last day to use them is March 21st. Good luck with that!

Farewell, Charlotte, we will miss you!!
