Earlier this year, Chip and Joanna Gaines were attacked by a person hiding behind words who claimed that they were doing a "disservice" to other parents. But that didn't stop Chip from shutting him down "so fast it will make your head spin."

On April 27, 2018, author Daryl Austin published an opinion piece on "USA Today" where he claimed that Chip and Joanna's family-first philosophy was just an act and that it is impossible to handle considering they have four children, at the time the article was published.

"Chip and Joanna Gaines did not get where they are now by putting their family first," Austin said.

“No matter how rich and famous, we are all limited by the same 24 hours in a day," he added. "You cannot do all they’ve done (or even a fraction of it) and still have any real time left over for family. Frankly, I wonder where they even find the time to brush their teeth, let alone spend quality, one-on-one time with each child daily.”

The following day, Chip heard about the accusations and decided to wrap it up in a little tweet.

"I don't know Daryl, & he clearly doesn't know me. But for the record: If there is ever a need w/ my family (1st), I'll shut this circus down so fast it will make your head spin. BUT Jo & I believe, w/ God anything is possible. Including having an amazing family AND career you love."

The following month in May, Austin apologized in a Fox News piece and said, "I regret writing it." According to PEOPLE, he also apologized to "Fixer Upper" stars directly.

“I didn’t write it to be hurtful, out of jealousy, or to cause controversy. I wrote it for one simple reason: because I believed every word I wrote to be true," he added.

A representative replied on behalf of the Gaineses and forgave Austin's remarks. Austin said that the family offered him a free stay at one of their most popular vacation rentals in Waco, Texas: Magnolia House and Hillcrest Estate.

Austin turned down the offer because he did not feel "comfortable with them paying for it," but plans to visit Waco some day.
