Senator John McCain is currently battling glioblastoma which is an aggressive, fast-growing brain cancer.
Since the Arizona Republican announced his diagnosis last July, reports have stated that he has become "increasingly frail" and has undergone several treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation.
The 81-year-old Vietnam veteran allegedly gave his son-in-law a heartbreaking order.
Ben Domenech, a publisher of "The Federalist" and who is married to McCain's daughter Meghan McCain, posted on his Twitter account about his recent encounter with his father-in-law.
"John hugged me tonight. He asked me to take care of Meghan. I said I would," reported "AZCentral." The tweet has since been deleted.
According to the American Brain Tumor Association, the chance of McCain surviving two years with this type of cancer is about 30 percent.
According to the "Mayo Clinic," "Glioblastoma can be very difficult to treat and a cure is often not possible. Treatments may slow progression of the cancer and reduce signs and symptoms."
"The news of my father’s illness has affected every one of us in the McCain family," Meghan McCain said in a statement. "My grandmother, mother, brothers, sister, and I have all endured the shock of the news, and now we live with the anxiety about what comes next.”
