You may have seen a surveillance video that surfaced after Hurricane Harvey that showed a man parking his car on the side of the road near Dallas, Texas and abandoning his dog right there. If not, take a look here.
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending.
The dog, named KD, is a one-year-old mixed breed and she now has a new home. A 22-year-old couple, Reagan and Zachary, adopted KD after they met her and felt an instant connection.
KD was initially taken in by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas (SPCA). Reagan and Zachary visited the shelter, and after playing with KD for a few minutes, they knew she was the one.
“She was so sweet. We both knew we had to get her,” said Reagan. “She usually nudges our hand or gives us a sweet kiss on the face to remind us she is there. All she wants to do is love on people and be loved.”
Victoria Albrecht of the SPCA says that seeing KD happy at her new home “has brought us all to happy tears.”
The man with the car was identified as Gorge Spears, who later turned himself in to police for abandoning KD on the side of the road. Spears claimed he abandoned the dog because his sister was unable to control her. Spears has been charged with one count of cruelty to animals.
