Legendary Athlete Dies From Unknown Cause in Florida Hospital; Requesting Prayers

Some unfortunate news has come in. The golf and sports industry is mourning the loss of a prolific athlete.

 

Two-time major champion and World Golf Hall of Fame star Doug Ford has died on Monday, May 14. The news broke out on Tuesday. He was 95 years old.

Ford passed away at the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, according to the PGA TOUR.

“We cherish the rich history of our PGA TOUR, of which Doug Ford was an integral part,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan in a statement. “In an era when giants of the game were building the PGA TOUR, Doug achieved remarkable success and never lost his unmatched love of the game. All of us owe a debt of gratitude to this great player.”

 

Ford won the 1957 Masters and was the oldest living Masters champion. From 1952 to 1963, Ford was one of the most "prolific" champions in the golf world.

The Connecticut native grew up in Manhattan. He was born on August 6, 1922, in West Hartford, Connecticut. He won 19 PGA Championships, including the 1957 Masters. He earned a spot in the World Golf Hall of Fame with his undeniable skills.

Ford was survived by his daughter, Pam, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
