LAPD Officer, Seriously Injured While On Duty In 2015, Dies In Surgery 4 Years Later

June 12, 2019

It had been four years since the 49-year-old LAPD officer Esmerelda Ramirez was seriously injured while serving the citizens of Los Angeles.

Then, tragically, the 49-year-old succumbed to her injuries this week - after undergoing surgery related to the original incident.

No details were ever released about the traffic accident in 2015 that caused Ramirez to sustain such serious and lingering injuries.

What we do know is that this week’s surgery was a result of the original trauma and that the officer died from complications from that surgery.

Ramirez served with the LAPD since 2008, and "was a valued member of Pacific Division where she worked in a variety of assignments."

She is mourned by her fellow officers who deeply feel the loss of one of their own.

“LAPD Officer Esmeralda Ramirez passed away this weekend due to complications from a surgical procedure to address an injury from an on-duty traffic collision in 2015.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family. RIP, sister”

“The LAPD is mourning the loss of one of our own. Officer Esmeralda Ramirez served the city of Los Angeles with honor, integrity, and pride.

"We will, not as an organization but as a family, never forget her sacrifice.”

Officer Ramirez was the 2,010th LAPD officer to die in the line of duty and leaves behind three adult children.

Please pray for them and all of her loved ones who are sharing the unimaginable grief from this tragedy.
