A famous Hollywood couple is calling it quits. After nearly a decade together, Channing Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan, have decided to split.
The "Step Up" couple shared the news with PEOPLE on Monday that they have decided to separate as a couple after nine years of marriage.
Several sources tell PEOPLE that the couple has actually been separated for months now.
“This has been a long time coming,” one source says. “Like any marriage, they’ve had their ups and downs over the years but they really started to grow apart within the last year.”
The couple, who are both 37 years old, together announced their split by saying, "We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”
The couple met in 2006 on the set of the movie, "Step Up," and later in 2009 tied the knot. Just recently in March, the couple was spotted together at the "Kids' Choice Awards" as a family. Tatum was on stage promoting his newest animated film, "Smallfoot."
Last month, Tatum and Dewan posed for a photo after their daughter provided an adorable face painting session. The two shared a picture of their makeover saying, "This is what it looks like when a little tyrant fairy artist holds you down and makes your face look "better."
Fans have taken to Twitter expressing their sadness over the couple’s decision to separate:
