For the last 26 years, Gary Kelmer has dedicated his time to getting kids to school safely as a school bus driver. Every year, he would teach his new batch of students his favorite song—the Eagles’ Fight Song.
Gary has been a Philadelphia Eagles fan for decades. This year, his dedication to his job and his team has paid off.
Grateful parents are sending the bus driver—who they affectionately know as “Mr. Gary”—all the way from Mount Laurel, New Jersey to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They bought him tickets for Super Bowl LII.
The Philadelphia Eagles will be playing against the New England Patriots on February 4th. They bought him two tickets so he could bring his wife.
When they first surprised him, the only reaction he could muster was “Oh boy Oh boy! Oh boy!”
Amy and Izaak Smith are the parents of two of Gary’s regulars. They started a GoFundMe page to raise the money for the gift.
On the GoFundMe page they wrote, “If you know Mr. Gary, you know two things for sure...1-He loves his job as a bus driver for Mount Laurel students which he has been doing for over 20yrs. 2- He is a die-hard Eagles fan. Every kid who rides his bus knows the Eagles fight song.”
Apparently, the day after the Eagles won the NFC, Amy congratulated him. Gary had tears in his eyes because he was so excited.
Amy and Izaak decided to start a GoFundMe to see if they could raise enough money to send him to see his team. In only five days, they had raised enough money.
Gary had no idea how to respond to the sweet gesture. He said, “I don’t know what to say. This is a special dream come true. I’m ecstatic.”
What a sweet gesture! Hopefully, Gary has an incredible trip to see his team play in the Super Bowl.
