George H.W. Bush Rushed to Hospital with ‘Life-Threatening’ Infection Following Wife's Funeral

Last week was a difficult week for fellow Americans when former first lady Barbara Bush passed away. Mrs. Bush was laid to rest on Saturday.

 

 

Following the funeral, George H.W. Bush was admitted to the hospital Sunday, spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.

"President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday after contracting an infection that spread to his blood," the statement read. "He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant."

Mr. Bush was taken to a local hospital in Houston. According to CNN, the former president is in intensive care.

 

Mr. Bush is suffering from an infection which led to sepsis. According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis can be life-threatening. "If sepsis progresses to septic shock, blood pressure drops dramatically, which may lead to death."

According to CNN, a source close to Mr. Bush said that his condition was critical.
