Missing 1-Year-Old Boy Kidnapped By Deranged Babysitter; Police Asking For Your Help

August 02, 2018

On Thursday, August 2, police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 1-year-old boy. The police believe the suspect was the babysitter.

Miquis Lamont Jenkins was last seen with 19-year-old Lyesha Catherine Gibbs. Gibbs often babysits the 1-year-old boy, and promised that she plans on returning the child soon, according to "News 8."

On Wednesday, August 1, "News 8" spoke with Gibbs via video phone call. She disclosed that she was with Jenkins and they were currently in Benton Harbor, Michigan, which is over 80 miles from the child's home in Grand Rapids.

Gibbs said over the call, "just wanted to see him for a minute." Then the investigator asked if she plans on bringing the boy back home. Gibbs replied, "Yeah."

According to the baby's mother, Laquaya Gillard, Gibbs was supposed to watch him only for a few hours. When the family returned, their child was gone from their Cambridge Apartments around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gillard kept messaging and calling Gibbs Wednesday through Facebook Wednesday evening. Through the Facebook messenger app, Gillard could see that Gibbs was reading her messages, but she wasn't responding. Just before 11 p.m. Wednesday night, Gibbs blocked her on Facebook.

The following day around noon, Gibbs connected with Gillard via video phone call. This was about an hour after the Michigan State Police issued an Amber Alert.

"News 8" investigators traveled down to Benton Harbor to see if they could find Gibbs at her residences. Unfortunately, no one opened the door, but Gibbs told the Gillard family that she is on the highway with their baby boy.

Right now, the Grand Rapids Police Department are working closely with the Benton Harbor Police Department to find the boy.

Gibbs is described as 5-foot-4 weighing 250 pounds. She has short black hair and was last seen driving a silver Toyota SUV with a broken back seat passenger-side window which is covered in plastic and tape.

If you have any information on their whereabouts, you are urged to call 9-1-1 or call Detective Kevin Snyder at 616.456.3422 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.

Child found safe. Jenkins is currently at a local hospital to be checked out. Developing story. We are asking our readers to pray for him and his family.
