Florida policeman Jeremie Nix was on his way home from work when duty called.
Dramatic dashcam footage shows the K-9 officer’s heroic actions after a motorist on the road flagged him down to help save an unresponsive baby.
At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nix was sitting at a stoplight when he saw a woman trying to get his attention in another car. Nix made a U-turn to meet the motorist, and a woman exited the vehicle holding an unresponsive infant and frantically talking on the phone.
Nix immediately rushed into action and began performing life-saving measures on the infant.
The officer could not see any noticeable improvement in the baby’s condition, so he rushed back to his patrol car with the infant in his arms.
“I’m not waiting on medics,” said Nix over the radio. “I’m headed to the emergency room with the baby.”
The hospital was less than a mile away, and Nix was there in a hurry.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the 3-month-old baby is alive and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Doctors also said that because of K-9 Deputy Nix’s actions, baby Kingston is alive today,” said the department. “We are tremendously proud of Deputy Nix and we can already see that he and baby Kingston will have a deep connection that will last a lifetime!”
