The first day Josette Duran’s son Dylan asked for an extra lunch, she assumed he was still hungry after finishing it every day. After all, he was a growing young boy.
So she started to double the amount of food he got every day. She would send him to school with an extra lunch, expecting him to come home with leftovers. But he never did.
One day, she decided to ask him why he suddenly needed so much more food. Apparently, he wasn’t eating the food himself—he was sharing it with a friend.
A boy in his class was only bringing a fruit cup to school for his lunch. When Dylan noticed that, he decided to help out.
When Josette found out about this, she was so proud of her son. She continued to pack lunches for both boys, occasionally adding in notes of encouragement for them.
One day, Josette got called in for a meeting with the principal. The other boy’s mother had found out that someone was feeding her son at school. She wanted to pay Josette back.
According to Josette, “She says, ‘I know this isn’t much, but I just got a job, and I know you’ve been feeding my son.’” Josette refused to take the money.
Josette coaches a volleyball team and when they heard the story, they wanted to find a way to pay her back. They decided to raise money to help Josette. They raised over $400.
When Josette was given the money, she refused to take it for herself. Instead, she decided to pay off past-due lunch accounts for other students at her son’s school. In a video, she shared, “So now, nobody in that school owes any money. And now everyone can eat.” Check out the video below.
What an incredible act of kindness from this young boy. His kind act started a chain reaction. His mother was able to pay off lunch debts to many others as a result. Several months later, Josette went through some major health issues. They started a GoFundMe to help her raise money. Check it out here.
