Iconic Actor From 'Frasier’ Sitcom Has Passed Away

The well-known actor, John Mahoney, passed away late Sunday while in hospice care according to TMZ. He was 77 years old.


The British-born actor is best known for his character as Martin Crane on the popular sitcom, "Frasier." He was the father of Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce's characters for 11 seasons.


Mahoney also had a recurring role on "Hot in Cleveland," and has had several appearances in "Cheers," "Becker," "ER," and "3rd Rock from the Sun."

Aside from TV, Mahoney acted in tons of movies, such as "American President," "Eight Men Out," and "Say Anything." Mahoney has over 70 credits to his name.


Mahoney earned a SAG Award for his acting in "Frasier," a Tony Award for his character in "The House of Blue Leaves," and has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award for "Frazier."


Many fans took to Twitter to share their feelings and express their condolences to the family.
