Madison County Sheriff’s Department is actively looking for 46-year-old inmate Todd Moudy who managed to escape custody, stole a vehicle, and remains on the run. A massive manhunt has been underway for several hours and he is still at large outside Jackson, Mississippi.
The inmate took a prisoner transport vehicle and led police on a high-speed chase, then managed to disappear after ramming other vehicles with his. Moudy is believed to be alone in the van.
Moudry had just been to court where the judge revoked his bail on a previous charge. That's when he decided to take matters into his own hand. “The escape happened while the 46-year-old was being transported back to jail and he is believed to be armed.”
Sheriff Randy Tucker from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department issued this statement about the incident: “The officer [who had custody of Moudy] had multiple inmates in his custody at that time.
"One of the inmates was able to commandeer the van as the other inmates were taken into the jail.
“The inmate was shackled, handcuffed, and had belly chains, what have you. The van door was open. He was able to jump into the driver's seat of the van, which was running." He took off at a high rate of speed as other deputies gave chase.
Moudy is believed to be armed and dangerous. His girlfriend, in an emotional plea, has called for him to turn himself in. So far, the Sheriff's Department has been unsuccessful in apprehending Moudy.
Anyone with information about Moudy's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
