Reports say that Emswiller was taking a smoke break when a heart attack struck causing him to fall back off the second-story balcony. Hanks was on the set that night Emswiller fell in Lebanon, PA when he was filming the scene, "You Are My Friend."

Emswiller was alone on the balcony at the time, but other crew members heard a noise that sounded like someone had fallen from the balcony. After Emswiller hit the ground, a nurse on the set rushed to his aid. Shortly after, emergency responders arrived and he was in full cardiac arrest.

Emswiller was taken to the UPMC Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead three hours later.
