Barron County, Wisconson Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald stood before throngs of reporters just moments ago, breaking details of the mysterious disappearance and discovery of 13-year-old Jayme Closs who was abducted from her home on October 15th after both her parents were shot dead.

No one had seen or heard from Jayme in 88 days until Thursday evening, January 10th, when a 'bedraggled' young girl approached a woman, identified as Jeanne Nutter, who was out walking her dog. The woman took her to the nearby home of Peter Kasinskas where 9-1-1 was called after she uttered the now-famous words: 'This is Jayme Closs! Call 9-1-1!!"

According to Kasinskas, Jayme looked the same as he had seen in photos, maybe a little thinner. Her hair was the same color and she appeared, “unkempt” and was dressed in Leggings, sweatshirt, oversized men’s tennis shoes.

During the press conference, Fitzgerald went through what they have learned since Jayme's recovery. Obviously, some details cannot be revealed at this time, but he shared what he could.

The suspect they have in custody is 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson, believed to be from Gordon, Wisconsin where Jayme was found. According to the Sheriff, Patterson has no criminal history. His mugshot has been released to the public.

Police say Patterson was not in his home (where Jayme had been held) when he was apprehended, but "out in the street." Authorities say they honed in on Patterson after Jayme was able to describe the vehicle that he drives.

Patterson is in custody at this time. Investigators are using search warrants to inspect the suspect's home and vehicles.

Authorities believe Jayme was the sole target of the crime, not the parents who were shot dead in the abduction. They believe any prior contact between Patterson and Jayme was ‘minimal.’ They have evidence that Patterson concealed his identity and it appears he also concealed Jayme’s identity from others. No details as to what that entails.

No answers about WHY she was targeted, but it is believed he had no prior contact with the parents or Jayme. But Sheriff Fitzgerald said they have reason to believe Patterson had been targeting Jayme and planning the abduction for an unspecified period of time.

Next update at 4:00 pm Eastern Time. The Sheriff's office promises more information will be revealed at that time. They are not looking for additional suspects.
