It was a horrifying discovery. Early Sunday morning, the deceased body of a young woman was found along a Florida highway.
According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office, they “found the body of a woman laying on her back in the grass median of U.S. Highway 92 in Lakeland – about 60 miles southwest of Orlando – around 6:40 a.m. Sunday.
The unidentified 22-year-old did not appear to have suffered any major injuries, only ‘minor trauma’ and ‘an apparent broken’ leg, police said.
On Friday, the woman was finally identified as 22-year-old Kara Fay Hanvey of Sebring, Florida. Little else is known about the circumstances surrounding her death.
An autopsy was performed to determine the exact cause of Ms. Hanvey’s death, and the results are disturbing.
“An autopsy determined Hanvey had been struck by a vehicle. The sheriff’s office said there were ‘other suspicious circumstances surrounding her death,’ including her belongings found nearby along the westbound shoulder. No witnesses were located.”
For now, investigators are trying to piece together the last few moments of Ms. Hanvey’s life and are asking for the public’s help.
“Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. or is acquainted with the victim to call the sheriff’s office at 863-298-6200.”
“She was probably one of the best young mothers I knew and every time she came into a room, she’d light it up,” one friend said of 22-year-old Kara Fay Hanvey.
A GoFundMe page was started to raise money for the young mother’s funeral expenses and to care for her two young daughters.
“This is all so unexpected and we don’t know how things are going to go. But we’re praying that we don’t have to do this alone.
“Kara was the most extraordinary young woman and though we may think she was taken too soon, The Lord had a reason for calling her home.
“We ask that you please help with what you can so we may lay her to rest. We need as much support and prayer as you can give.
“So if you could do what can to make this difficult situation go as smoothly and peacefully as possible. Thank you and God Bless”
