Lou Ferrigno, world-famous bodybuilder and beloved star of the 70s hit, 'The Incredible Hulk,' had to be admitted to the hospital when he had a bizarre reaction to a routine vaccination.
The 67-year-old former bodybuilder took home the trophies for IFBB Mr. America title and two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universe titles. His competition and friendly rival during those years was none other than mega-celebrity and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In 1977, Ferrigno was cast as the angry green monster to the late Bill Bixby’s Bruce Banner in the hit TV series, ‘The Incredible Hulk.’ He remained on the program throughout its run, ending in 1981.
‘Big Lou’ as he has been affectionately known, remains in top physical condition even as he approaches the big 7-0, continuing to work in the health field as a trainer and fitness consultant.
Last Wednesday, ‘The Hulk' posted to his Facebook age from his hospital bed after he had a rare and scary reaction to the pneumonia shot he received.
“Went in for a pneumonia shot and landed up here with fluid in my bicep" 💪🏽
“I’ll be ok but it’s important that you keep an eye on who’s giving the shot and make sure they not only swab the spot correctly but that you watch the needle come out of the package” 🤦🏻♂️
“The fluid in Ferrigno's bicep could have been a reaction to the vaccine, or it might have been because the vaccination itself was not done properly, according to Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
“The skin might not have been appropriately disinfected before the shot, or the needle or vaccine could have been mishandled, said Schaffner, who did not treat Ferrigno.
The good news as that Lou is expected to make a full recovery. Officials at Providence St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California have not responded to Fox News’ request for comment.
Ferrigno put his fans’ minds at ease with a follow-up host on Friday, reporting that he is out of the hospital and was able to attend a scheduled event where he posed in photos with another amazing physical specimen, Dolph Lundgren.
“What a great night with @smashglobal and @SteveOrosco
Great getting to hang out with some old friends as well @Dolph_Lundgren
Happy I made it out of the hospital in time👍🏽”
Please join us in wishing your favorite green monster a speedy recovery and hope his bicep isn’t permanently damaged from the ordeal.
