It has been one week since a 23-year-old University of Utah senior mysteriously disappeared after returning from California where she attended her grandmother's funeral.
Mackenzie Lueck was last heard from in the early hours of June 17th.
“Lueck was last heard from around 1 a.m. on June 17 when she texted her mom saying her flight landed safely at Salt Lake City International Airport.
“From there, police say, she ordered a Lyft to an address in North Salt Lake.”
Friends say that Lueck did NOT live in that part of town and they cannot think of why she would have requested that destination.
Her family and friends say the 23-year-old hasn't been seen or heard from since.
Mackenzie’s parents reported her missing on June 20th after she failed to show up for class or work. She also missed a mid-term exam at school.
According to Lueck's family, she also planned to fly from Salt Lake to Los Angeles at some point on June 23.
Lyft has issued a statement about the incident, emphasizing that customer safety is their number one priority.
Lyft told CBS News "the safety of its community is ‘fundamental’ and it's ‘actively assisting law enforcement with their investigation.’"
The ridesharing company also stated that “there were no irregularities in the ride Lueck took, and that it ended at the destination she entered in the app and the driver continued taking other customers immediately after dropping her off.”
But, for whatever reason, Mackenzie did not return to her college home as planned, and now her parents are stepping up their efforts to locate their daughter.
Mackenzie’s father told CBS that they are working with authorities to obtain subpoenas for their daughter’s phone records.
They hope those documents might yield important information concerning their daughter’s whereabouts.
One of Mackenzie’s sorority sisters shared that the missing student has not been on social media in a week and why that is unusual for her friend.
“It’s not like her to go off the grid, and if she did, then she would tell me,” friend Juliana Cauley told CBS News.
“I would do anything to get her back. And honestly, I would trade places with her in a heartbeat just to know she’s safe.”
Mackenzie’s family issued a statement about the investigation.
“Our primary goal is to find MacKenzie and bring her home,” they told KUTV.
“Her family is grateful for the concern, prayers and the tireless efforts of the Salt Lake City Police and members of the community.”
According to police, Lyft and the driver who took Lueck to her destination have been cooperating with their investigation of the disappearance.
They went on to say that they have no reason to think Mackenzie has been harmed and there is no evidence suggesting that.
Lueck is described as a “23-year-old woman with blonde, medium-length hair. She's 5-foot-6 and weighs 120 lbs.”
