According to her stepfather’s account, four-year-old Maleah was riding in the silver Nissan when she was allegedly taken by “three Mexicans.”

The car mysteriously disappeared and had not been found until Thursday when a woman spotted it abandoned in a parking lot and notified authorities immediately.

“According to Houston police, ”The car appeared clean and ‘normal’ and had one car seat inside.”

The vehicle was towed to HPD headquarters, where a crime scene analyst will process it and do a thorough investigation.

ABC 13 reports "that according to Tim Miller with the Texas Equusearch, authorities found and searched the vehicle Thursday morning.

“Maleah’s mother, Brittany Bowens, was at the scene, crying for her daughter and pleading for answers, but Maleah wasn’t in the vehicle.”

The details concerning the little girl’s are sketchy at best, with her stepfather Darion Vence insisting that the little girl had been abducted by three men “in a pickup truck.”

It’s what happened next that has caused Police to question his account of what happened.

A massive search was undertaken based on Vence’s story, but since then, inconsistencies are coming to light.

According to Fox26, “The Houston Police Department has said that Darion Vence is now a 'person of interest,' after claiming that Maleah Davis was kidnapped by the men after he was beaten unconscious but, eventually, he and his 2-year-old son were allowed to go free.

“Initially, police said [Vence] told detectives that he walked to the hospital after being in and out of consciousness for almost 24 hours before reporting her missing.

“But then, officials from the Sugar Land Police Department -- which is helping Houston police with the investigation -- told Fox 26 Tuesday afternoon that Vence said he was dropped off, making his story inconsistent."

A massive search was undertaken based on Vence’s story, but since then, inconsistencies are coming to light.

“Detectives haven’t spoken to Maleah’s stepfather, 26-year-old Darion Vence, in a few days. Authorities have been trying to contact him, but he hasn’t been responsive.

"At this point, he is not considered a suspect but he is considered a person of interest who detectives would like to speak with."
