A Connecticut man accused of robbing a bank told police that the motive for committing the crime was to impress Taylor Swift.
The man drove 60 miles from Connecticut to Taylor Swift’s mansion in Westerly, Rhode Island and threw about $1,600 over her fence in an attempt to win her affection.
Bruce Rowley, 26, was arrested and charged with robbery in the second degree and larceny in the fourth degree by Ansonia, Connecticut police.
After his bank robbery, Rhode Island State Police found Rowley driving his Jeep on the interstate and attempted to stop the car.
“Rowley refused to stop and engaged the Rhode Island State Police in a pursuit that eventually entered Connecticut,” said Ansonia Police. “Troopers from the Connecticut State Police Troop E in Montville joined in the pursuit.”
The pursuit ended when police used a spike strip to flatten the tires of his Jeep. A Rhode Island State Police K9 dog then apprehended the suspect.
While Rowley was being transported back to Ansonia, he admitted he had a “crush” on Taylor Swift and wanted to impress her so he robbed the bank.
“He stated that he drove to Taylor Swift’s house and threw some money he stole from the bank over her fence,” said police. “Rowley reported that he tried to contact Swift, however, she was not home.”
Rowley was held on $100,000 bond at his arraignment.
