The royal family has a huge list of things they have to do. They have obligations for how to dress, how to act, and even specific rules for Christmas. While the family’s Christmas celebrations do sound like a lot of fun, they still have to stick to what’s expected.
One thing that’s expected out of everyone for Christmas is that all couples are married. For decades, engaged partners have not been invited to the celebration.
When Prince Charles and Princess Diana were engaged, he was invited to the Christmas celebrations at Sandringham Estate, but she was expected to celebrate the holiday elsewhere. The same was the case when Prince William was engaged to Kate Middleton. Of course, both women were invited after they married their respective partners, but not before that.
This year, many people expected that the same rules would apply to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. However, according to the latest from the royal family, that is no longer the case.
Apparently, Prince Harry requested that his invitation also be extended to Meghan so that they could spend the holiday together. And, according to a Kensington Palace spokeswoman, “You can expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day.”
To those who know about the royal family, the Queen often grants Harry’s wishes. According to People Magazine, they were told by a source close to the family, “If Harry asks for something, the Queen would say yes as she adores him.”
You might remember several years ago, Prince Harry was able to convince the Queen to be a part of a video as a response to former First Lady Michelle Obama. Check out the hilarious video below.
It’s great that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be able to spend their first Christmas as an engaged couple together. Check out how they’ll be spending that Christmas here.
