We all have our nervous tics: biting our nails, making unintended facial expressions, or even cracking our knuckles. But when you’re a member of the British Royal Family, you are seemingly not allowed such human foibles. Because every move, every nod, every smile - or lack thereof - is scrutinized, they soon learn to keep the distracting habits to a minimum.
But, if you are a brand new member of the ‘firm’ and are still learning the ropes, you might get caught resorting to a familiar quirk without even realizing it.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex can thank her acting background for her ability to compose herself in public and to keep her incidental body movements to a minimum. Experts have picked up on one specific thing that they say points to the true story - and they have a lot to say about what it means.
Blanca Cobb, body language expert and author of Method of the Masters, "explained it could be because she feels uncomfortable with her hectic royal schedule."
Blanca said: "Some people touch their hair, play with their fingernails, or rub their arms, as a way to psychologically and physiologically calm themselves when they're feeling anxious, uncomfortable, or stressed.
"Some people might touch, twirl or stroke their hair when in awkward social situations such as when they're not sure what to do or what to say."
Could this be what her dad is picking up on when he sees photos of his daughter? He has mentioned that he is very concerned about how she is doing and that he knows her and doesn’t like what he is seeing, claiming that she looks “terrified.”
"I see it in her eyes," he said. "I see it in her face and I see it in her smile. I've seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don't like the one I'm seeing now. This one isn't even a stage smile - this is a pained smile."
Let's just hope that her father is wrong and that Meghan is just displaying characteristics of being a human being, and that the occasional swipe at her hair is nothing more than a habit that she has held for so long that it's taking a little longer to eradicate than most. Or maybe all it will take is a simple change of hairstyle...
That being said, we admit that we can't help but share her father’s concerns about Meghan and her adjustment to the royal life and hope she is able to find her way soon so that she can fully enjoy married life with her handsome Prince Harry.
