Some unexpected news has come across the newsroom this afternoon. Melania Trump was admitted to Walter Reed Army Hospital early Monday morning.
The first lady underwent surgery after having issues with her kidney. Thankfully, her office described it as "benign" but for safe measure, she underwent surgery, according to CNN.
"This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition," the first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement. "The procedure was successful, and there were no complications."
The doctors at Walter Reed are expecting a full recovery. However, she will need to stay at the hospital for approximately one week.
"Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere," continued Grisham.
President Donald Trump is currently at the White House but is expected to be visiting her shortly.
Since Nancy Reagan's mastectomy in October 1987, Melania is the first U.S. first lady to have undergone a serious medical procedure while her husband was in office.
