A one-year-old boy has been found in the woods of Bend, Oregon. According to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, the baby's father and mother had abandoned their son in the forest.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., the 25-year-old father, Brandon M. Blouin, went to a home south of Bend on May 10 and requested that the residents call the police.
Brandon said that he had been living with an 18-year-old woman and their 1-year-old son, Bradley. They were living in the woods in a vehicle.
Brandon told the police that the woman had walked away leaving the baby in the care of the father. As the father went out to look for the mother, he later set the baby down and left him alone in the woods.
“Blouin is believed to have been under the influence of a controlled substance when he made the choice set him down and walk away,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
The sheriff's office believed the father was under the influence of methamphetamine.
The police launched a massive search asking for other local authorities for help, including the community. At about 12:10 p.m. the baby was found about a mile away from the family's vehicle.
“It was an incredible blessing to find him safe today. As you can see in this photo, he is wrapped in one of our jackets symbolizing the level of safety and protection that now surrounds him," the office said.
The father was arrested and charged with criminal mistreatment, child neglect, endangering the welfare of a minor, and assault.
“The assault charge stems from an injury that we believe Bradley suffered while in Blouin’s care,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The child was quickly taken to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend and Bradley appears to be doing very well.
