One giant auto manufacturer has issued two separate alerts today, affecting nearly one million vehicles, worldwide. In a massive recall of one of its best-selling models, the Dodge Ram, due to two safety issues that have already caused several accidents. Most of the affected vehicles are in the U.S. and Canada.

"Fiat Chrysler recalls 882,000 pickup trucks for steering, pedal issues"

According to Fox News, the first recall affects the vast majority of the trucks in question. “Fiat Chrysler is recalling over 660,000 heavy-duty trucks worldwide because a loose nut can cause a loss of steering control.

“The recall covers Ram 3500 pickups from 2013 through 2017, as well as 2500 pickups and 3500 Chassis cabs from 2014 through 2017.”

There have been eight reported crashes and one injury due to the steering failure.

But that’s not all. In a second recall this week, nearly 200,000 more Ram trucks are being recalled for a separate issue.

“The Ram brand also is recalling nearly 194,000 light-duty trucks in the U.S. because the brake pedals can fall off.” This announcement covers certain 2019 pickup trucks that have adjustable brake pedals.

“Adjustable brake pedals are activated by a switch in the cab and powered by an electric motor. Fiat Chrysler says an investigation found that if people move the pedals to their rear-most position, the brake pedal can detach.”

"In addition to the steering issue, some models are being recalled because the brake pedals could fall off."

Fortunately, the company says they have not received any reports of crashes or injuries due to this defect. But they urge customers to refrain from attempting to fix the issue themselves.

“Fiat Chrysler says an investigation found that if people move the pedals to their rear-most position, the brake pedal can detach.“

This comes on the heels of another recall in late January of 182,000 of the same trucks for failure in the power steering system.

No details have been released concerning the timeline for getting repairs and/or replacement of the faulty parts. In the meantime, please do not take any chances. If you think your truck is included in this recall, it's best to not drive it until you've spoken with a customer service representative for further instructions.

Customers are encouraged to call the company at (800) 853-1403 if they have any questions about the recalls or to find out if their truck is affected.

"2013-17 Ram 2500 and 3500 models can suffer a loss of steering, while the 2019 Ram 1500 may have its brake pedal come off when adjusted to certain positions"

Let's hope that this is the last of the recalls for a while and that the company has better days ahead!
