The Florida International University's large pedestrian bridge collapsed Thursday afternoon, according to CBS Miami. There are multiple reports of Florida Highway Patrol confirming there are several deaths. The bridge stretches over 8th street, which is a busy road that connects downtown Miami all the way to the Everglades.
The amount of deaths and injuries is currently unknown. At least one person has been sent as a trauma alert to a local hospital, according to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The Miami police told Fox News that the Miami-Dade Fire Rescued had recovered six people with injuries. At least six cars have been crushed.
The bridge was called the "Instant Bridge," and collapsed around 2 p.m. The bridge was projected to be completed in early 2019. It was constructed by MCM-Munilla Construction Management.
It was a connector from the university's Modesto A. Maidique Campus. According to the Miami Herald, about 4,000 students live there.
