Off-Duty Officer Dead After Shots Fired From Inside New Jersey Home

There is some devastating news this morning after an off-duty police officer was shot and killed late Sunday night.

Shots were reported at around 7:50 p.m. last night inside a New Jersey home off Woodland Avenue. Police officers were responding to the home where reports of the off-duty officer had been shot, according to NorthJersey.


When the police arrived, they found the officer with severe gunshot wounds. The officer was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center where he later died.


The entire situation is still unclear and will be investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.


According to Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, the spokeswoman for Jersey City’s Department of Public Safety, the off-duty officer had been with the department for about a year and additional information about him or the incident was not immediately available.


Police officers and others crying and pacing up and down the driveway as they surrounding the exterior of the hospital. The officers declined to comment about the incident and continued to pay their respects to their fallen soldier. They all began to pray at 9:40 p.m.

The Prosecutor's Office also declined to comment and release any further details of the shooting.
