Former Pro-Athlete, 1 Other Person, Found Dead In California Condo. Police Investigating As 'Likely Double Homicide'

April 23, 2019

The discovery of two bodies at a Newport Beach, California condominium Sunday night has resulted in an intensive police investigation. Now the victims of an apparent double-homicide have been identified.

"The Newport Beach Police Department said it is conducting ‘an active homicide investigation’ after the bodies of Darren Partch, 38, who lived in the residence, and Wendi Miller, 48, of Costa Mesa, were found just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.”

"A Newport Beach police car is parked Monday morning outside a condominium complex where a man and a woman were found dead the night before. The complex is in the 2100 block of East 15th Street."

Police say Partch’s roommate found the bodies.

According to the LA Times, who quote police spokeswoman Heather Rangel, “A resident of the condominium arrived home after the Easter holiday weekend to find the bodies of his roommate and a woman who did not live there.

“Police said there were no signs of forced entry and that ‘the activity appears to be confined to this location and investigators have no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety.’”

“The mother of two was last seen around 1:45 a.m. Saturday after going to a Laguna Beach bar, according to friends who launched an awareness campaign on social media after she went missing.

“Friends said she was going to give Partch a ride home; the two lived a few blocks from each other.”

Miller’s family became alarmed when they could not reach her over the weekend.

“Miller didn’t show up to Easter festivities over the weekend, alarming family members, a relative said Monday outside the condo."

"A post on social media Monday morning expressed concern about Wendi Miller after she hadn't been seen since going to a Laguna Beach bar Friday night. She was later identified as one of two people found dead in a Newport Beach condominium."

Police would not disclose the manner of death for Partch and Miller, but Miller’s son, Lucas confirmed on his Facebook page that his mother had been shot.

“First of all I want to say thank you for all the love and support from everyone. It’s way more than I could ever hope for.

“For those who don’t know my mother was found. She had been shot and it was told to us that she did not suffer. The police are still investigating all the details.

“Thank you for all the prayers and please don’t stop because I feel our family needs them even more now. I have no doubt in my mind that she was loved on earth and I’m happy that she gets to be loved even better in heaven. I love you mom.”

Miller had been a chief executive of a local non-profit and Partch had played professional hockey for several teams both California and other states.

Anyone with information about the case can call Detective Rick Henry at (949) 644-3797.

Please join us in praying for both families and that police find the person who committed this horrific crime.
