McCay had been ill for several years now and had not been on "Days of Our Lives" for nearly two years. She passed away just a few weeks before her 91st birthday, having been born on November 3, 1927, in New York City.
McCay attended and graduated from New York's Barnard College and went on to study acting with Lee Strasburg. In 1951, McCay landed her first big role on the soap opera, "Love of Life," acting as Vanessa Dale. She had this role for four years.
McCay went on to appear in multiple television shows and films. She even appeared on "General Hospital" and "The Young Marrieds."
She was best known for her role as the family's matriarch Caroline Brady in "Days of Our Lives." She left the role for a brief moment, but when she returned, she was there for three decades.
