Just days before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding day, Prince Philip took a nasty spill that left him with a cracked rib and, what appeared to be black eyes, at the ceremony.
The terrible accident happened a few days after he had given up his crutches following his recent hip operation. The 96-year-old Duke was bathing when he slipped and fell injuring his ribs.
But the Prince soldiered up and was determined to attend his grandson's wedding last Saturday. Even without a stick aid.
“The Duke is not a fan of showering and prefers to bathe," an insider told "Express." "But he’s a determined man, and nothing was going to stop him attending nor would he take any kind of walking aid.”
Dr. Carol Cooper even gave Prince Philip a new title: "Iron Duke."
"I take my hat off to him," Dr. Cooper said. "He is clearly a very resolute gentleman who will not stop doing what he needs to do."
"Fractured ribs tend to be quite painful," she continued. "It’s very rare for a fractured rib not to cause pain, even a tiny fracture."
While the doctor was quite concerned about him refusing to stay at home and rest, she was extremely impressed with the "Iron Duke."
“Because your ribs move when you breathe, every breath you take can be painful," Dr. Cooper explained. “Painkillers are often not very effective but it is possible to have a local anesthetic injected into the area to deaden the pain temporarily.”
