As Princess Diana's marriage came crashing down back in the 1990s, the man who stood by her side was Patrick Jephson, and he believes Diana would have helped Meghan Markle avoid this recent scandal.
The issue: Markle's father, Thomas Markle.
Recently, Thomas had a heart attack and said that he would not be attending the Royal wedding. Some say he was embarrassed; others say he is still unwell, while others say it's because of the photo scandal.
Within 24 hours he has changed his mind multiple times on if he would attend or not. But the most recent is that Thomas is undergoing heart surgery and will not be walking his daughter down the aisle.
With the paparazzi staged photo scandal, Jephson believes that Diana would have been understanding and may have even prevented it in the first place.
“The first thing you need to know is that she was fabulously approachable, warm and emotionally empathetic," Jephson told “PageSix.” "And she recognized those strengths only work if you also learn the practical skills to be a perfect, professional princess.”
Jephson said that Markle and Prince Harry still have a lot to learn about tackling the public life and the palace life. It's not an easy feat, but Princess Diana would have been there for her son and future daughter-in-law.
Jephson served as Diana's right-hand man for nearly a decade and claims he has incredible insight into the Royal family.
Witnessing Diana's struggles firsthand, Jephson said that "Meghan is the age that Diana was when she died," and should have the skills to withstand the public life.
“When you’re 36, with one marriage and numerous romances behind you, you’re not a beginner, you don’t have many excuses left," Jephson said. "Therefore, the amount of latitude that the British public will give Meghan and to an extent, Harry, does have its limits.”
“Harry and Meghan now hold their own future happiness in their own hands," he continued. "They will encounter many media irritations, and it will be up to them whether they fulfill the enormous potential for themselves and their children, they cannot blame anybody else.”
